West Virginia University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is currently accepting applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow - Mitochondria and Toxicological Exposure with the Department of Human Performance

About the Opportunity

An NIH funded postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Human Performance to explore bioenergetic mechanisms associated with fetal toxicological exposure in the heart. The successful candidate will develop and perform genomic, proteomic and epigenetic mechanisms governing the regulation of cardiac mitochondria. This will include DNA, RNA and proteomic analyses using an integrative approach. Priority will be given to candidates with bioinformatic expertise and experience with mitochondrial evaluations.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other laboratory research personnel to meet research objectives.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments; vector generation, transgenic and knockout mouse lines, RNA and DNA analyses.
  • Perform biochemical experiments; spectrophotometry, protein analyses, fluorescence-based techniques, flow cytometry.
  • Perform bioinformatic data analysis (RNASeq, CLIPSeq and NGS technologies).
  • Perform mitochondrial analyses of function, structure and dynamics.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Develop new research proposals for funding agencies.
  • Share research findings and make presentations at scientific conferences.
Qualifications
  • PhD degree in physiology, molecular/cell biology, genetics, biochemistry or a related field;
  • Strong self-motivation, solid basic science training background
  • Experience with hypothesis-driven research
  • Good written and oral scientific communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team-oriented environment.
  • Prior experience with animal models and multi-omics analysis are highly desirable.
  • Preference will be given to those who have expertise in metabolism, mitochondria and/or bioinformatics.
